After our hour long bedtime routine…just kidding, that’s a stretch. After our 45 minute bedtime routine of books, potty, floss, brush teeth and mouthwash, prayers and tuck ins’, Seth and I are so ready to relax. We sneak out the homemade ice cream and I savor every bite. This recipe is so simple and doesn’t require an actual ice cream maker or zip-locks and ice cream salt….just a mixer.
1 pint of heavy whipping cream
1 can of sweetened condensed milk
1/4 cup cocoa (really optional- but I love chocolate)
1/2 -1 cup of a milk or brewed coffee (I prefer coffee)
Optional mix ins:
chocolate chips (heaping half cup)
caramel and sea salt
First you whip the heavy whipping cream till it peaks and has a thicker consistency , usually takes 5-8 minutes. Next add in the cocoa and sweetened condensed milk. Continue to mix another 5 minutes and then add your milk or coffee for the final few minutes. Pour into a freezer safe dish. I sometimes freeze it for an hour and then mix in chocolate chips, otherwise they all sink to the bottom. It takes a good 6-8 hours to fully freeze. If I do the caramel, I drizzle it in once it has been in the freezer for a while and then sprinkle it with sea salt as I serve it. Melt. In. Your. Mouth!
The final product is simply amazing. No joke, I prefer this over anything else! As far as cost, it isn’t the cheapest to make but at least you can make it your own and play around with ingredients.
