Hello everyone! Hope you had a safe & happy 4th Of July. We were able to have lots of family time which was fantastic and how holidays are meant to be shared. That being said- we are happy to be home and in our “normal” routine again. Us housewives have been brainstorming a way to add some new flavor to our blog and we came up with the idea of doing a section called Tested and Tried. Future posts will include either different methods we have tested, reviews on fun restaurants we have tried, and different reviews on products. This will cover a wide variety of things that will hopefully give some insight for you readers. So without further adieu- I give you our first Tested & Tried post.
I saw this idea floating around and I thought to myself- does this really work to pop popcorn in a brown paper bag? The answer I have found was YES! I will first off give a disclaimer that I wouldn’t count on this method to be my primary way to pop popcorn because the variability with each time I’ve tried it. This is a great go-to though because it doesn’t involve any other ingredients besides normal popcorn kernels & a brown paper bag. (Not the big kind that groceries come in. I mean the small kind you pack a lunch inside.) There’s no dealing with heating up oil or having to wash a big pot or popcorn maker. I have tested a number of different amounts of kernels to use and have found this to be the most consistent method with our microwave. Things may need to be adjusted depending on your microwave’s wattage. Here’s how it works in our home.
– 1/4 cup white or yellow popcorn kernels
-1 lunch sack size brown paper bag
1. Pour 1/4 cup popcorn kernels into the brown paper bag
2. Fold the top down twice so that it’s sealed at the top of the bag
3. Place the bag in the microwave and cook for 3 minutes. You will want to stay close by so when the popcorn’s done popping you can stop it if it doesn’t take the full 3 minutes to pop. It’ll be done when there’s a large pause between pops. Again, this is where you have to play around with your own microwave to figure out the best time length and power. This has worked the best for our microwave.
It really does work! So simple and delicious. The taste is very similar to air popped popcorn so feel free to add your favorite toppings as you desire.
There you have it. Give it a try and let us know what you think in the comments below!
